Welcome to The Skillman MethodTM

Skillman MethodTM students learn the tools for success. Skillman students learn the specifics of how to study, outline, and excel on exams. Students can and should apply the same approach to law school courses across the board and to bar preparation.

In my thirty years as a law teacher, I have figured how to teach students how to excel in law school and how to successfully prepare for bar exams. As a first-year student at the University of California School of Law at Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law), I spotted the fact that legal education is based on some false assumptions and the fact that there is a serious communication gap between professors and students.

My second year in law school, I was a tutor for Boalt’s Academic Support Program. Upon graduation, I became the Director of Boalt’s Academic Support Program. From there I went onto the faculty of Santa Clara University and later the University of San Francisco. I designed the Academic Support Programs for schools. For the last four years, I have been on the faculty of The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law where I have designed and implemented a new academic support program for students and faculty.

As the result of my students’ success, I have been invited by numerous law schools around the country to teach my courses for their students, including the University of Minnesota, Hamline University, William Mitchell College of Law, Tulane University, Washburn, Cleveland-Marshall College of Law, The University of California at Berkeley (Boalt Hall School of Law), Golden Gate University, Fordham University, Southern University, UCLA, Pace, and all eight Boston area law schools under the sponsorship of the Massachusetts Bar Association, among others.

I was the Western Region Director for six summer institutes for the Council on Legal Education Opportunity Program (CLEO). I am currently teaching exam courses for CLEO students.

My bar preparation courses have been sponsored by numerous law schools, bar associations, and legal employers, including Northeastern University School of Law, Southern University, Vanderbilt University School of Law, The Oregon Bar, The Kansas Bar, the Massachusetts Bar Association, The Minnesota Black Lawyers Association, The Metropolitan Black Bar Association, Legal Aid Society of New York City, and the King’s County District Attorney’s Office, among others.

More than twenty thousand students have attended my courses. I have spent at least two thousand hours tutoring students individually. I have been invited to present my courses by so many organizations because of the success of my students.

The Skillman MethodTM Demystifies Law School

The Skillman Method’sTM Basic Courses demystify law school and the bar exam. The Skillman MethodTM fills in the gaps and gives students a step-by-step approach for excelling in law school and on bar exams. The approach is practical, yet sophisticated. Students learn how to think, how to apply their knowledge effectively, and how to evaluate the success of their own work. TSM teaches metacognitive competency.

Skillman students report incredible success. Law professors and Deans who sit in on Skillman courses, often say, "I wish I had learned this in law school!"

Be sure to watch the free class, "How to Get A’s – The Short Outline," filmed at Vanderbilt University School of Law. The class is extremely helpful.
