Bar Candidates

CONGRATULATIONS!   You have completed one of the most difficult graduate programs. It is a privilege to address you as Dr.

Now that you have completed your Juris Doctor, you have one more task to complete before you can practice law – passing the bar exam.

We are here to support your bar preparation. The Skillman MethodTM courses will make the task less stressful.

We believe that almost all law graduates can pass the bar on the first try if they 1) understand the standards applied to their work, 2) understand how to meet those standards, and 3) understand how to prepare for the exam effectively. Proper preparation is not easy, but proper preparation is completely possible.

The Basic Bar Preparation Course

Our Basic Bar Preparation Course, filmed at Vanderbilt University School of Law, provides the critical information needed about how to prepare effectively for the bar exam. The course takes the mystery (and the fear) out of the process.

The Basic Bar Preparation Course teaches bar candidates how to organize time, how to read and outline bar course materials, how to successfully answer essay questions and respond to MBE questions. Further, the approaches learned in the course can be to the performance exam and the professional responsibility exam. Our suggestion is that you watch this course before attending your traditional bar review course.

The Basic Bar Preparation Course is available online 24/7 via video stream. The course includes three classes, "How to Prepare for the Bar Exam," "How to Outline Bar Courses," and "Exam Writing, Legal Analysis, & the Exam TemplatesTM." It takes approximately eight hours to watch the course.

The Supplemental Bar Preparation Course

Once you have taken The Basic Bar Preparation Course, you can enroll in The Supplemental Bar Preparation Course. This course is designed to help bar candidates perfect their exam-taking skills.

The course meets weekly for two hours for six weeks. Every student may submit forty essays answers for critique by faculty.

Plus, each student meets with faculty for six hours of one-on-one private instruction. Classes and individual meetings are held via teleconference so there is no lost time commuting. Students can attend classes from anywhere in the country.

During classes, student essays are critiqued line-by-line, using the information taught in The Exam Writing and Legal Analysis class. One class session is dedicated to teaching students how to respond successfully to MBE questions.

Students are expected to submit essays weekly. Students who have submitted essays weekly during the course may submit essays up until ten days before the bar exam.

For individual sessions, students must submit their work twenty-four hours in advance. Twenty-four hours’ notice is required to cancel an appointment for private instruction. If a student fails to give proper notice, his/her account will be charged for the schedule session.

Private Tutoring

Private tutoring is available to students who have taken The Basic Exam Course. Bar candidates must purchase a ten-hour block of faculty time for private tutoring, unless they are enrolled in the supplemental course. Private tutoring is offered via teleconference.
